My libstdc++.so is still back at .5, so after adding .../chandler/external/gcc-3.4.5/lib to my ld.so.conf file I was able to bring up Chandler and shut it down again with no seg faults :-)

I note the splash screen looks a little funky without a border. Also, there was minor font weirdness in one place, but still readable and usable -- sorry I shut it down so quickly I didn't even pay attention to where it was. I'm running the BlackBox window manager.

Thanks for your help in getting me running so quickly.

Ummmm.... next question... Is this the correct forum for newb user questions?

Looks like the typo fix didn't make it into the svn tag when I created the alpha3 distribution. To fix your current problem edit the patch file to replace -0.7a4_5 with -0.7a3_5

That got me further. But now, somebody moved your cheese. The 0.6a packages seem to have been removed from setuptools. This URL gives a 404 error:

wow - we are really dragging you thru the mud on this one!

Hmm, yea, looks like that version is not on the Cheeseshop now - one of the reasons we try to copy them all to our local servers. The url for our local copy is http://builds.osafoundation.org/external/setuptools-0.6a11-py2.4.egg

I'll have to look into adding the setuptools option to inform it that it should download eggs from our server instead of Cheeseshop. Looks like you found a build bug for me - thanks!
