Hi Bear,

I am thinking that if it is feasible to incorporate a python library MDB(http://mdp-toolkit.sourceforge.net/) into the chandler toolbox. It is a pure python library for advanced data processing and is under LGPL. Philippe and I discussed about the licence before and feel there should be issue with the license.

The idea to incorporate it is because chandler will be using some data processing techniques and using an open-sourced, 3rd-party maintained library might be a good choice. Would you like to further look at this?

This is still a preliminary proposal for your comments. If we do not plan to add this into the trunk at present, I could also branch proper directory to put it under. Do you have suggestions where to put it? /util, /tools, or other places? And how could I set the import paths so that the plugin applications could directly import them without specifying absolute path?

It would not go into the chandler directory at all, but rather would be added to the external directory. We would also need to add NumPy as MDP lists it as a dependency. Has NumPy's license been checked?

MDP, because it is a pure python lib, would be easy to add. NumPy I will need to test on the three platforms to make sure it's C extensions are built correctly in our build environment.

Let me know what the timeframe for this is.

thanks,
