I think it makes sense to install it in the same directory,
especially if that means the get the dialog explaining how to upgrade
their repository.

I think originally the default installation folder (on Windows and
Linux, no installer per se on Mac) installed into a folder simply

/some/path/[Cc]handler. We then changed it at least on Windows to
include the version number, as far as I recall because we wanted to
protect users by not accidentally overwriting their old Chandler
before
they were able to export their collections and settings.
I am asking if we should reconsider, and make the default again
just the
name Chandler.
We've seen some bugs now where a user had installed some older version
like 0.7alpha4 and when they went to install 0.7.0.1 we actually
offered
to install into the alpha4 folder. Now this shouldn't happen, but
if it
does, it makes for a pretty confusing situation (running 0.7.0.1 from
0.7alpha4 folder). We've had some confusion about versions in bug
reports because of this, too.
