Hi Avner
Glad to hear you're excited!
To get up to speed on past Chandler NLP work I'd check out:
http://code-bear.com/code/parsedatetime/ (natural language date/time
parsing)
http://chandlerproject.org/bin/view/Journal/NLP (Journal of Desktop
client NLP project)
The idea on the SoC project ideas page definitely leans toward making
something useful for the web side of Chandler, so you might also look
into information on web development. A good place to start might be
the Django (a server side webapp framework) or Dojo Toolkit (a client
side Javascript toolkit) websites here:
http://djangoproject.com
http://dojotoolkit.org
We use Dojo extensively in the web ui, and Django is a good example of
a tool used to build web services.
The three widgets listed on the ideas page (search, table, and month
view) would also make great desktop widgets, and in fact might
leverage similar technologies as their web based counterparts.
Please feel free to ask here or ping me privately if you have any
other questions related to OSAF and SoC 2008.
All the best,
Travis
