Hi,

I had a task to delve into the sharing, syncing, import/export, interop instructions in the Get Started Guide. I emerged 6 hours later with a serious headache, but I think I now have a semi-coherent end-user story for how this works.

I tried to organize the sections by scenarios that have come up either on the Users List or in user interviews.
http://chandlerproject.org/Projects/GetStarted

I separated out instructions for Apple iCal, Sunbird and Evolution users who are only interested in CHandler Hub / Server. http:// chandlerproject.org/Projects/UsingOtherAppsWithChandlerHub

Please review to make sure I haven't misrepresented something.

I also have a couple of questions:

1. What does the Google sharing account do in Chandler Desktop? I filled it out thinking it would automatically sync with my Google Calendar account, but nothing happened.

2. I know I've asked this before, but am I correct in making the following assumptions about Apple iCal 3.x?
+ Cannot subscribe read-write to other people's calendars via CalDAV
+ Can only subscribe read-only to other peoples calendars via webcal
+ Can sync your Chandler Hub account, but only if calendars are already on Hub, meaning calendars cannot be created in iCal and published to Chandler Hub.

=====

Assumptions:

1. The Get Started Guide is written from the perspective of the Chandler Desktop user. (Trying to write it from every possible user just got too complicated. Also, the Desktop user is probably the most likely to make use of this guide.)

2. There are 2 basic scenarios:
- Getting *your* data in and out of Chandler
- Sharing data with others

Both scenarios involve
- publishing/subscribing with Chandler Hub between Desktop clients
- publishing/subscribing with Chandler Hub between Desktop and other Apps
- publishing/subscribing to other Services

Getting your data in/out of Chandler also involves Import/Export

However, it's all complicated by the fact by subtle differences between your syncing your own data or subscribing to someone else's data.

3. I didn't list all the possible ways to get data in/out and share. Just the "recommended" ways and the requests we get most often. For example, I don't really get into Feed Readers or WebDAV nor do I recommend that Apple iCal 3.x users sync their data between Chandler Desktop and Apple iCal by subscribing to individual Calendars via webcal.
