Please join us for the last Change seminar this quarter! The first ever Pakistan-ICTD Workshop was held at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in Lahore, Pakistan [1]. The workshop brought together ICTD researchers, practitioners, and government officials to discuss the use of ICTs for development purposes in the region. This talk will give an overview of the workshop. Two projects will be discussed in-depth: (1) a project to digitize old maps in rural Pakistan and (2) an insurance scheme for low-income workers and domestic employees. There will also be an overview of a number of provincial-level government projects presented, including a corruption feedback system, a map-based protest planning system, and a project looking at errors in grading high school exams.
The talk will be organized by two University of Washington attendees to the workshop: (1) Fahad Pervaiz, a graduate student in Computer Science, and was one of the primary organizers of the workshop, and (2) Brian DeRenzi, a post-doc in Computer Science, presented at the conference.
