Hi,

Prompted by a chance tweet, I have placed an issue in the JetBrains'
tracker floating the idea of a Chapel plugin for the CLion IDE.

https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/CPP-5650

Clearly JetBrains are not going to finance development of a plugin, but
if there was some effort from the Chapel community, I am sure they
would be very supportive. Plugin development is in Kotlin or Java.
Projects have to be CMake driven.

If there is no interest, no worries.

However if there is interest in propagating interest in using Chapel,
then having an IDE story is more or less essential in today's
programming world. Yes I know us hardened oldies think Emacs is the one
true editor (I know there are the renegades who like VIM, SublimeText,
Ed,…), but if you ever get to use a good IDE, you tend to write code a
lot quicker.

The more important think though is not the people currently writing
Chapel code, it is trying to get new people to use Chapel. They will
assume an IDE is available. If there isn't then they are unlikely to
use the languages.
