I have been trying to understand google. I use their free email
software and their browser and in the past I have used their ad
services (when I was working for usatoday), and their search
offerings.

I've stopped working in the ad business, at least temporarily, because
I've stopped working for usatoday. I've stopped using their search
offerings because I did not like a variety of the recent changes to it
(though I miss image search and sometimes return for that, I mostly
use duckduckgo now).

Recently, I've started to see a variety of regressions on their
browser which are encouraging me to abandon it. APL Font support, for
example, does not work properly on current Chrome. There are other
issues, but my overall impression is that there are people within
google who are actively trying to make the company fail.

What's interesting is that this corresponds to public statements
reflecting the unhappiness of some people there with the decisions of
managers which they have hired. A perhaps related issue is how
traditional the company looks when you look at its job offerings and
how deeply that conflicts with the reputation cultivated by its
announcements and press releases.

I am still mulling this over.

But, for now, I'm just noting that more and more I'm being driven away
from google offerings and towards other offerings. It's...
interesting.

Thanks,
