It's pretty. I'm not sure I'd call it primitive - just a different style of work.
To get something like the blender work I think we'd need multi-stage graphics pipelines. (For example, take some image and project it onto a surface.) There's also the matter of importing geometries that someone else built and has made available. (I've a project I was working on to do that, but I stalled because the x2j xml parser crashes on me for one of the xml files (built by a python team) uses. And since then I've been allowing myself to get too busy on other projects. I'm disappointed in myself.)
