sadly, you're probably right about that. but if we're trying to 'dig 
out the roots of terrorism' it behooves us to look very closely at 
those who have architected the present situation, rather than giving 
them a blank check.

i hope you're right about that, too. but the far-reaching impact is 
precisely the point, and if the fanatics on both sides succeed in 
creating the WWIII scenario they appear to crave, I'm afraid that a 
pliant and 'bi-partisan' congress will go along with anything.  The 
SSSCA may be the least of our worries. Historically, once governments 
gain new powers they tend to never relinquish them.
