Well, the code can't deal with really long latencies, or wierd
transports, yet.

Re wierd transports, the first step would be to abstract out the
transport layer so we can have transport plugins. Nextgens has expressed
an interest in doing this, but doesn't have much time; whoever does it
will need to work closely with me for some of the time.

Re long latencies... we have to make the user interface handle long
latencies in a sensible way; this is in progress. We also have to find a
technical way to use long-latency transports for useful work. I'm not
sure exactly what we will do yet on this front, as we will obviously
want to have low-latency requests as well for the foreseeable future.

Maybe something like passive requests, or maybe just a completely
separate bulk transfer request type. It makes a certain amount of sense
to coalesce it with passive requests as these by definition persist for
a long period...
