Good report. For all its problems, I think our legal system is quite
efficient when the innocent/guilty ratio is the viewpoint. In other words,
most of the people locked up have broken the law. The real issue is why were
they doing it, and are these people good or bad citizens. By not being a
socialist society such as France, we lock people up instead of rehabilitate
them. Weather that's bad or not I'm not going to dispute, but saying that we
have 25% of the worlds prison population is to imply that the rest of the
world is right and we are wrong. I say it's the other way around, we are the
most developed country with the most tax revenue to spend, so we can afford
to have the most cops and to keep people in prison (it's expensive), and a
decently good legal system. So in a way, the number is a compliment. The
rest of the world could catch up as far as I'm concerned, because I've been
in dangerous ghettos of some other countries. Your argument implies that
other countries don't have crime problems, I say they do, but we deal with
it better because we can. Bad people are spread across the world in an equal
way. But we catch 'em better than you guys do, and we keep them locked up
longer.

I'm signing off, talk to you guys tomorrow.

http://www.uncjin.org/country/country.html at the bottom there is a link
to a UK government report in PDF format, 8 million prisioners in the
world, 1.7 million in the US.

So i stand corrected, 21.25% of the worlds population is in US prisions
by the UK governments study.

Land of the ?
