My understanding/opinion from my reading & experience is that when Vista was initially released it had a number of issues including poor driver support from hardware manufacturers. Since that time (and especially since SP1) most of those issues have been solved, and Vista is now at least as solid as XP and I for one do not regret moving and would not go back. However the media & "word on the street/internet" haven't really caught up with the change & the Vista brand is now probably forever (unfairly?) tarnished as unreliable, slow, resource hungry etc. Having said that, if I was in charge of deciding whether to upgrade the OS for a company still using XP now, I don't think I'd it would be worth moving to Vista now. Windows 7 sounds as though it isn't too far away and seems to be getting some quite good reviews: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081028-first-look-at-windows-7.html http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/39940/128/ Over the last couple of years I've finally got around to trying Linux (starting with Ubuntu 7.04 & now using 8.04 in a virtual machine), and at the end of last year I bought an iMac for home and so have had some decent exposure to OS-X. My kids use Macs at school so I had been planning to run the iMac in OSX and use Fusion to run Windows as required, but despite a number of goes at that, I find that it now spends 95% of the time running Vista via Bootcamp. I've enjoyed exploring both OSs and really like some of their features, but I haven't been enticed to go the whole hog and embrace either one as my main platform. I fully admit that I probably haven't put in the effort required to really get comfortable with either alternative the way I am with Windows, but that is at least partly because the cost/benefit hasn't seemed worth it to me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
