I noticed that various languages are featured at the RubyRX conference, not just Ruby. As interest is building among the dynamic-language community for functional programming, there may be opportunities for J to be part of such events. I'm not making a specific proposal here, only noting that this indicates a class of opportunities.
Another such example is that Jane Street Summer Project 2009, formerly specific to OCaml, is now open to all functional languages. Note: "... we will fund students over the summer to work on open-source projects which aim at improving the practical utility of their favorite functional language."
