> How to get paid for APL/J is very important. might pay to study how open source makes money... i don't know how to make money from open source software, except that the founders and shareholders in mysql ab got US$1billion for the company when sun bought it. sun have had an "everything open source" policy for a little while now. it hasn't helped their revenues AFAIK.
i think the basic model is to have customers who pay for bug fixes and enhancements and this work trickles down to other users. after all, it costs almost nothing to let people download software/code. but i can't come to grips with the value of the IP in the product not being reflected in the price of the free software... if i spend time developing software, i don't want people making money out of my efforts without me getting anything in return. ah well, someone will explain it to me someday. ta, jack. BTW, sun is still sun, since oracle bought it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
