Yes, I know (and I refer to this in my paper on APL and Unicode). But I don't agree with the choice of utf-8 as the primary internal representation - and having two internal representations. Seems to me to be the wrong choice for "an array language" which otherwise goes to great lengths to hide data types. With j, the internal representation "in your face". I understand that it makes no difference if you just want to get strings into and out of a GUI or a web page, and that sorting and searching really require "libraries" for many of these languages anyway.
