Ouch! I feel your pain. The HDD in my laptop died at the start of the year while I was overseas for a month. I'd backed up everything before I left but didn't have the backups with me or any OS disks etc. In the end I downloaded and installed Ubuntu on a new disk to get up and running again. The Win7 beta came out during that time so I had an incentive/excuse to give it a go ... have been using it or the RC ever since.
