The rule about filling up available space is inconveniently true. Last week, I bought and installed the game Dragon Origins by Bioware and the installation ate up 16GB.
Another thing is that I prefer watching TV shows on my phone. I tend to watch snippets when I'm idle so I would normally wait for a TV Show season to finish ... buy the DVD and rip to harddisk and make iTunes import it. My wife actually updated our desktop PC and fixed it so that we have a total of 2TB all in all in our desktop and NAS devices. I still remember the amazement I felt when I first encounted a 286 with 10MB harddisk. I was floored! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Björn Helgason Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 10:55 PM To: Chat forum Subject: Re: [Jchat] [Jprogramming] newbie question I think that the abundance of low cost extra devices has made it less important to keep important data on the same disk as the operative system and also the possibility to have several backups of important data. I have to admit that the new extra drives has also given appetite for space demanding data as movies and such that make it difficult to keep backups because of the size. Then again there are often copies of good films floating around on devices held be friends in case of one fails. Problem is that it takes a lot of time to copy a lot of films. Then again it also takes a lot of time to watch the films. I have acquired a hobby of listening to books on the PC and it is brilliant to be able to listen to books in the dark. The operating system is a lot less important now I think than what it used to be. All these new small devices with special application are amazing. I guess any form of *nix (including the Mac) is going to be the overall winner in the long run. 2009/12/7 Bill Harris <[email protected]>: > "Lau B.
