I find myself wondering if Android would not make a good host for the next generation of mobile J. In addition to their Java-esque API, they also provide direct access to low-level C libraries and means do exist for installing your own.
I have yet to determine what process sits under the hood of the LG Eve (which is available where I am), I know Samsung has just released an android device with an atom under the hood which supports the good ol' x86 instruction set. We shall know soon enough what Google is going to provide. The android kernel being derived from the linux kernel is in itself open source..
