64-bit linux is certainly ready. I have been using it on servers for several years with no discernible symptoms and on my personal desktop for the last 2 years or so.
My son is a fanatic for game emulators and has been the lone windows user in my household for awhile now. For Christmas, I gave him an upgraded system with Fedora 12 pre-installed (by me). He was astonished to find that not only are there plenty of emulators in linux land, but they are more stable and make far better use of the graphics hardware; he has elected to stay with linux. - michael dykman 2010/1/4 Björn Helgason <[email protected]>: > And as far as I can gather then Linux is really 64 bit ready. > I should move my old games to J. > All in all a satisfying answer. > Thanks to all that replied. > > 2010/1/4 Matthew Brand <[email protected]>: >> It has gone off on a bit of a tangent, but it is called chat :-). >> >> Anyway, the answer is, go for 64 bit. >> >> >> 2010/1/4 James C Field <[email protected]>: >>> Björn Helgason wrote: >>>> Now in a new year it would be interesting to hear the opinion of the J >>>> community. >>>> >>>> What is the best choice at the moment if I want to get a new computer. >>>> >>>> I have not got a 64 bit machine yet but I am thinking about it. >>>> >>>> Is it 100% certain that 64 bit (or more) is what I should choose for >>>> future machines I buy? >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> >>> HOW MANY OF RESPONDENTS RECALL THE INITIAL QUESTION?
