I've read somewhere (probably in Slashdot.org) that Apple business decision,
particularly in not supporting the Enterprise, was sound monetary wise. What I
got from that discussion, the first 15 years of apple was trying to get the
business market to take them seriously then Steve came back to apple. He
dropped the old strategy then went after students with their first iMac and
started making money.

And Apple has really some weird ideas for the enterprise. Take for example the
iPhone. You can only deploy using the Apple APP Store unless you get an
Enterprise License. The enterprise license allows you to setup your own APP
Store but besides the licensing cost (and other legal stuff), you got to have
at least 100 iPhone units. This essentially cut-offs small businesses and
custom enterprise application developers. There is definitely a very serious
distinction for Apple what an Enterprise business is. Seriously, I don't think
I can justify the 100 minimum unit requirement to my boss much less to the
board of directors.

Still, I have to say that the iPhone is the best corporate communication device
as of today. My wife has been telling me blackberry setup and support horror
stories that she has been having. Actually, I bought her an early
Valentines/Chinese New Year gift of an iPhone 3Gs and within two weeks, the
company President, VP's and a lot of expats in the company she works as an IT
Manager has moved to iPhones (to the consternation of people who have contracts
for their blackberry's). It's a really good thing that Apple is selling
open-line units in HK.

Actually, I have started on my plan to get into iPhone/Touch App development. I
have convince my wife to give it a go and I've been busy learning the works on
my free time. I don't know if I'll be successful because the development and
App Store submission cycle is quite intimidating. Still, if I fail, at least
I've learned something. :)

Nobody is saying that Steve is a bad guy. It's just a business decision that
Apple does not allow development packages not supplied by Apple like J on
some of there products. That may change in the future or it may not. If you
think that Apple should allow application development packages not supplied
by Apple on things like the ipod then you need to contact Steve and convince
him.
