I don't use it for code maintenance (I guess TextWrangler would be better for that) but I do use it for bug-lists, to-do lists and idioms. Also URLs -- I prefer it to Firefox's own bookmark facility. A URL is automatically recognised and set in blue. Clicking on it opens the page. I used to keep a running daily journal using Notepad when I used Windows heavily. Well, NV beats that! It's best at keeping a scrapbook of random short notes (text-only), which you can browse via the handiest keyword search I've met.
