So is the article describing a notation from which the typical dyadic
verb form of apl and j evolved and became even more general? If so, I
did not realize that such a notation is so historically new.

Maybe if Roger would rename the two primitives !. and !: as Stirling
numbers of the first and second kind, we could get Knuth to become a
spokesperson.  Does Knuth know about j forks?
