Lately, there have been quite a lot of people complaining about this.

I've done some work to add Wizards to Cherokee-Admin, so even if the  
example configuration didn't support PHP (it will no longer include  
PHP by default), it would require you a click to take it automatically  
configured.

You can expect this new feature to be include in near future. It will  
fix that problem at the same time that it eases the pain of  
configuring certain web software packages.
