I am currently looking for a solution to authenticate users from my
Postgres database, so I'm considering writing a validator plugin for
that purpose; basically the same as the mysql plugin but based on a
generic API. I've found libgda which seems a perfect choise for
implementation: http://www.gnome-db.org/
But before I code it I would like to know if there's interest for such
a feature, so that it may become part of future releases.
It's certainly a very interesting idea.
Would you be willing to maintain it like an external plug-in? In my
understanding that would better than adding it to trunk right away (libgda
dependencies might be some sort of an issue for some environments).
We could create a new project in the repository so it lived besides the main
source tree. Besides, the process would force us to come up with a cleaner way
to compile external modules.
The dependancies of libgda are rather big. An basically we have interfaces
to postgresql already in the bugtracker. The only interesting interface
(ODBC) is not yet implemented.
