Init.d files are not as portable as we'd like. I'd recommend you to write a 
short init.d file yourself.

Alternatively, you could beta-test our automatic deployment script. If 
everything works fine, it will create the init.d file for you. The installation 
will be self-contained under /opt/cherokee:

   wget -O - http://www.cherokee-project.com/install | python

Bear in mind it's still work-in-progress.
