Cherokee-admin's passwords are one-time deals. Having a permanent password
would be a serious security issue. The same goes for only listening on
localhost,

Cherokee is not an FTP server. If you do not have one running on your
server, you must install one to use FTP.
Be aware that FTP itself is an insecure protocol that should only be
used on a trusted network (read: not across the internet), and since
you already have an OpenSSH server running, you can already use SFTP
through that.

Check your distribution's documentation for information on adding
startup applications. This is not Cherokee's responsibility.

I'm sure you'll figure it all out, you just need to get into a
completely different system compared to what you're used to. And that
requires some study of the subject at hand.
