I just took my 71 apart. The right hand threaded ends were on the outer or spindle 
side and the left hand threaded ends were attached to the center link. Now I'm not 
sure whether they were ever replaced but I think the only difference you would 
encounter would be which way you turned the adjuster to change toe-in if you got them 
backwards.
