Once again I am troubled by wildly erratic oil pressure in my
ZZ3. Something is causing the pressure to jump -- typically double
(or half, depending on how you look at it) while the engine is
running.
No, I am not running too much oil. That is an easy one to
check and fix. And no, it is probably NOT the sending unit, or
the guage.
The pressure will jump from 20 to 40 PSI in a second, stay
there for a few seconds, and then drop back down to 20 PSI. This
has been going on for a few oil changes, so it is not due to the oil
or the filter. Synthetic and regular oil in a variety of weights
do the same thing. Typically the problem is most obvious when the
car is cold.
What could cause such a problem? Might it be an oil pump
failure coming on, or some loose cam bearing, or something else
that is not common?
Thanks for any thoughts might have.
