I did it a few years ago, not knowing where to find any production numbers.
I figured the total amount of MC1 3-speeds and divided by the percentage of
SS396's built in 69. The percentage I used was derived from the total
Chevelle build for 69 and how many SS 396's where built or what percentage
of the build where SS 396's. It's a crude way to try and figure things,
that's why I was looking for some opinions. Just wanted to point out the MC!
was not an option, it was the base transmission offered on all SS 396's that
year. If your SS had anything else in it other than the MC1 then that was an
option. My 69 is a base Malibu with the SS option, it only has the basic
listed options you received when buying an SS, no power steering, no
transmission upgrade, no A/C and a bench seat. I think the only thing they
added was the AM radio.....or did that just come with them?? Was radio
delete an option? I kind of wish it was a 300 series SS396!!.

The Chevrolet SS Muscle Car Red Book shows that 15,748
MC1 optioned Chevelle SS were made in 1969, not 2,700,
so it's not that rare of an option, where did you come
up with the figure of 2700?
