Why not just stick a crane adjustable that way you can adjust as to how
much timing you want to take out. for example if you had to much
compression. I don't think it would matter where you would put it as long
as its around the intake area. I do prefer the carb setup.

I guess I should also mention that it has a 1983 HEI distributor.

be ported or non-ported? It is a 1958 283 block w/ a brand new Edelbrock
Performer intake & Edelbrock carb.
