FYI, those were not mps files. The filename is always .mp3.pif. The last extension is the one that counts, so it is a .pif file. The .mp3 is only there to fool you into thinking it's something else. Also, you may have noticed that the virus adds an underscore in front of the sender's email address so you can't reply directly and warn the person that he/she is sending out the virus.
