WOW! I am impressed with the knowledge by some of the guys on this list.
Larry, Rodney and Kelly all know what they are talking about and ALL make
valid points!
And here I was thinking I could trade some computer advice for Chevelle
advice. Hopefully I can still help out here and there though. Just be
careful guys to let our normal biases based on good ole fashioned experience
from the school of hard knocks. effect our Chevelle "brother" relationships.
I hope that since we USE computers to further our Chevelle relationships,
trade knowledge, advice and more, that once in a while some computer advice
will be ok here. I'd rather have a few computer related messages mixed in if
it helps keep us all online and trading E-mails with good information.
The one thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is personal firewalls. I think
they are just as important as a GOOD anti-virus program. Another is privacy
protection. Things are being loaded on your computer without you knowing
about it in order to keep track of where you are going on the net and in
some cases what you are doing. This advice is sold to people trying to
market you things. For a good program to find these and get rid of them load
"Ad Aware" available at www.download.com
While I am still evaluating it, the best overall security package I have
seen is Norton Internet Security 2002. It has the anti-virus program, a
personal firewall, some privacy protection and some ad blocking. I bought
mine on sale at $39. Check your local warehouse store.
I pick my 69 Chevelle up today guys. I hope you will all celebrate with me
tonight in spirit at least. I can hear some of those parts singing now "I'll
be chromed for Christmas....."
Steve
p.s. Computer security is my job, but I don't know everything and don't know
anyone that does ;)
Sure I'm paranoid! But am I paranoid enough?
