Josh, I have had this same thought. If I have my info correct, this should be no more complicated than swapping your sick salamander for a small block, but I don't know about transmission length. Cross member location and driveshaft length might come into play here. I think the 4.3 would be really cool for a driver. I loved 93 S10. Go for it! I had a revelation one day while looking through an autotrader I saw an ad for a late model S10 with a 4.3 in it the whole truck was totaled but the people wanted $300 for it, so wheels started turning. How bad would it be to swap over that brand new 4.3 and overdrive tranny into that cute little 4 door? I love the 4.3 had one in a Blazer took a lickin and kept on kickin. Its just an idea I know I would have to screw around with the driveline and use that trucks computer and all that good junk to run the motor. It seems it could work, what do you guys think?
