Think there's a number missing from the VIN. 1=Chevrolet, 35=Malibu 6-cyl, but there's no 96 model code and the '6' should be the year. I don't have casting info on 6-cyl engines but there should be a code stamped on the right side of the cylinder block by the distributor. 194cid codes are OK, OM, OR, OS, and ZX. 230cid codes are PX, PC, PG, and PV. Any of those codes will give the engine size and transmission type. The only 6-cyl engines available in the 66 Chevelle were the 194 and 230; the 250 didn't come out until 67.
