[Chevelle-List] intake gasket

I have taken off my stock manifold on my 67/396 and will be putting in an Edelbrock Performer intake tomorrow........the Fel-Pro intake gasket I got has an aluminium insert on the heat cross over ,blocking it off ..... and the gaskets that came out do not........should I pop it out and keep it the same as what was in ...... or leave it in (this doesn't seem right to me) .....is this insert for the newer big blocks ??? what does it accomplish?   Mel 67 Malibu SS
