Mel,
The block off plate is used to reduce heat in the intake/Carb. In a race
situation you block it off. For a car that has a manifold choke and is driven
in cool to cold weather you leave it out. Sometimes there is a choice of a
metal insert with a hole that is a compromise between the two.

>I have taken off my stock manifold on my 67/396 and will be putting in an
Edelbrock Performer intake tomorrow........the Fel-Pro intake gasket I got has
an aluminium insert on the heat cross over ,blocking it off ..... and the
gaskets that came out do not........should I pop it out
>and keep it the same as what was in ...... or leave it in (this doesn't seem
right to me) .....is this insert for the newer big blocks ??? what does it
accomplish?
