Morning...... My name is John ( papawheels ) recently acquired a 66 Chevelle Malibu that Iam in the process of restoring. When I bought this car it had a 350 ci motor with nothing on it . I replaced wires , carb , alt , power steering pump , valve covers . Re-painted the block , added headers and now I have come to a block in the road. The car didnt come with a starter, should say it did but it was doa. I talked with several guys at the tech shop on line last night and got mixed opinions. The flywheel does not seem to have replaced, its rusty and the cover plate is gone. Went to the auto store and picked up what I thought to be exact match, but when we put it in the teeth on the flywheel do not meash with the starter gear, from left to right about 1/2 in gap. The pattern on the starter bolts is corner to corner but on the block it shows to variations of holes . Corner to corner and side to side and the distance side to side is about 1/4 inch farther then the corner. Sounds confusing to me too. Dont know what the engine came out of all I know by the block code is it from '69 to '79 .My question is , is there more than one variation of a chevy starter for a 350 engine ? If I can get thru this obstacle Iam on my way to the body and interior. The engine has been rebuilt but the previous owner knows little about it or what it came out of......need help !!! Thanks........Papawheels ----------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
