Mike - Thanks for the info - I'm off to check your web site!!!! ;) Nick -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Michael Pell Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 7:28 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Tremec 5 speed Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List ------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Nick, Yes, the GM version of the Tremec 3550 is a direct bolt in, in that it bolts to your GM bellhousing, has a GM input shaft, uses the GM TH400 trans mount, and uses alll GM clutch, linkages, fork, bearing, etc. Now the exceptions: - has aC6 output shaft, - your driveshaft might need shortened. - the Tremec is a "toploader", meaning the shifter sticks out the top of the trans, rather than on the side like the Muncies. With an original manual car (floor shift), the stock shifter opening will work, and only needs widened a bit. With an automatic car, you have to cut a shifter hole anyway. You can see what this looks like in my article, although your Camaro will have a different hump. Also see pics at http://www.fortesparts.com/tremec/tr3550-69camaro.html . The Tremec trans is more square than a Muncie, so it doesn't fit in the tunnel (68-72 Chevelle) as well. To compensate, I dropped the back of the trans down 3/8", by lowering the transmission tab on the crossmember. This was easy enough to do. (again, see my article). For your Camaro, I can also get a custom made crossmember for you. Your original console should work also, at least it will on my '69 Chevelle. I still need to install mine, but it looks like it'll work fine. Probably won't be able to use the 4sp shifter plate in the console though. The Tremec is an overdrive trans, and 5th is available with either a .68 or .83 ratio. I have the .68 and 4.33 gears, and at 60mph, the engine is turning about 1900rpm! Gear ratios are: 3.27, 1.98, 1.34, 1.00, and .68/.83. This allows you to keep your lower rear end gear, and still have a driveable car (highway speeds). Another bonus is that the Tremec is stronger than the Richmond, by about 100 ft lbs, depending on which Richmond source you check. And I think its less expensive, or certainly comparable in price. Please let me know of any other questions. I'm going to build a website that has these details. It'll be at http://www.TremecTransmissions.com take care, nick visciani wrote: > Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List > ------------------------------------------------------------ > > PLUG AWAY - > Is a tremec a direct bolt in for a super T-10???? > ..and is 5th 1:1 or over drive??? > > I've got a 69 Camaro (4.10 rear) - in dire need of a transmission face > lift....tired of spinning it 4000rpm down the highway trying to keep up > > Nick > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Michael Pell > Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 5:01 PM > To: ChevelleList > Subject: [Chevelle-List] Tremec 5 speed > > Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List > ------------------------------------------------------------ > > Hi guys/gals.
