What is the "proper" way to break in an engine? I have heard not WOT, varying speeds, and no trips over 1 hr running. Do this for approximately 1000-5000 miles (yes, even on rebuilt motors that have a lot of mods; not just new from the factory engines). I have also heard that you need to bring it up to operating temp a few times and then start driving it the way you expect to drive it. Confused? Yes.. Crazy? On some days... Kevin M. You should change to oil after the engine has been broken in. I have always change the oil after the first 3-5 hours and then again in a day or two.
