Hey Larry;
I have built several X pipe exhaust systems for
different cars. I have gotten mandrel bends from Hooker headers,
and welded custom mandrel bend exhaust systems. They are the
best! I read a article that the "H" pipe was devoloped for
the Hemi engines but lose effectiveness over thirteen inchs in
length. The X pipe is that much better, it is the best possible H pipe in
a manner of speaking. The reason why is: If you think about a
Chevy firing order, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, on the left side 5 and 7 fire
one right after another, and on the right bank 8 and 4 fire one right after
another. This causes a BIG increase in exhaust pressure on for a
short peroid. The X pipe divides the pressure evenly between the two
mufflers. You can here that the exhaust is quieter and smoother. It
also makes a noticeable increase in HP, even on a stocker. I am sure as
the power goes up the improvement is more dramatic.
