I am still unclear what backspacing is, but I think I can get a handle on it.  What about the bolt pattern for the 69 Chevelle?  When looking at wheels what how do you determine which ones you will need...I mean 17x8, 17x9.5, 17x11?  What is the second number, width of the wheel?  In that case the 275/40R17 tires that I want to put on my Chevelle would require 17x10 wheels?  Is that correct...please correct me if that is not correct.  Sorry for all of these questions.  This is the first time I have tried to understand the world of wheels and tires.

Thanks again,
Lojac

I'm sure someone on the list will post a nice picture to show how backspacing is measured.  Basically, it's the distance from the mounting face of the wheel to the inside edge of the wheel.  If you're planning on running a 10" wide wheel, I can tell you that 5.5" of backspacing (the same thing I'm running on my '71) will fit very well.

What exactly is backspacing?  What type of backspacing am I going to need to get these 275/40R17 under the rear on my 69 Chevelle?  What is the bolt pattern for the 69 Chevelle?

Thanks,
Lojac
