The trans you are talking about I believe is called a T5 and the fifth
gear is an over drive but they are known for being week and if it were
me I would not get it.  If you are seriously looking at a 5 or 6 speed
swap take a look at Richmond.

If I remember my Camaro history correctly, towards the end of 3rd gen
production, you could order a Z28 with a 305 or step up to the 350.  If
you
ordered the 305, it came with a 5 speed.  If you ordered the 350, you
had no
choice but the 700R4 because the 5 speed wasn't strong enough.

Considering the 350 only had about 245 hp, that would tell me you
shouldn't
even consider the 5 speed for a big block or even a healthy small block.
