As long as you know the distributors are compatible, first mark the wires and their position on the cap.Pull off the vacuum advance hose if there is one. Next, pull the cap and mark where the rotor is pointing and then reference the body of the distributor to somewhere on the car. Pull out the distributor slowly so you don't move the oil pump tab. When reinstalling the distributor, turn the rotor a little more counterclockwise from your mark. When you install the distributor and the dist. gear engages with the cam gear it will rotate slightly clockwise. When it's all the way it it will seat flush to the intake face. If it's off one toothe one way or the other in refernce to the cam and oil pump tab it wall not seat all the way flush. Line your housing mark up and swap your plug wires and your ready to go. Oh, tighten down the distributor. If everything lines up, you probably won't need to re-time the car. You may want to re-check it anyway. Good luck.
