Congrats Lisa, One of the first things I'd do is call GM and get a free "Restoration Kit". It consists of photocopied material relating to your particular year of car. You need to have a valid VIN for the year (should be on your title). Call 800-222-1020 and the best part is, it's free! It takes 6-8 weeks for them to get it to you, but the price is right. I have ones for my 67 Chevelle and 67 El Camino, and I also got ones for the 69 and the 70 Chevelles.
It's broken down into General (model ID, serial numbers & ID, interior/exterior options/paint, etc), Chassis information, Body information, Dimensions & Weights, Power Trains, and just some good reference data. Anything I can help with in these areas, drop a line to the list. I didn't use any lead additive in my 67 at all (bought it in 86) and just had the engine overhauled this past winter. The machinist did put hardened exhaust valve seats in it this time for unleaded fuel to be safe. He said that in an engine's "mid-life" that it's so set that unleaded fuel generally doesn't hurt it because it's been heated/cooled so many times it already hardened itself. Don't know if that's true or not but I drove it for 12 years without additive. I bought my 67 Elky last fall (small block) and haven't used additive and haven't noticed any problems yet. Since you'll probably go through the engine anyway before long and if it's in decent shape now, I wouldn't worry. I'm sure others might have different opinions however. Good luck with the car and this list is a valuable resource of information as well as Team Chevelle at http://www.chevelles.com Dale McIntosh ACES #1709/TC #92 Gold 67 SS/67 Elky http://www.dalesplace.com http://www.team67.com http://www.midwestchevelles.com > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, April 26, 2002 2:16 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [Chevelle-List] New Chevelle Owner > > > Just bought dream car, 1970 Chevelle SS 396.
