Rick made some good points below. I went through same thought process. First, it is your car and your decision. But, a lot of morons out there. So, I came up with a solution for a 67 Malibu which does not have the same value as a 67 SS.
Replace oil leaking 283 with 383 stroker. Possibly replace powerglide with 350 Turbo. Replace hood with SS hood; have lower rocker panel guards similar to SS. Keep Malibu badging. Paint rear cove black like SS. Replace 283 badges with 383 badges.
You now have a nice looking cruise vehicle with an aggressive look but does not look like a clone.It is an upgraded Chevelle Malibu. To the unsuspecting eye, it almost looks like an SS, but to a sophisticated Chevell nut, you merely upgraded a Malibu.
Also, place in nice CD player, speakers in kick panels, 2 10 inch sub woofers, and wood steering
wheel with guage package. A nice set up and your not worried about dudes claiming it is not an SS.
