Gentlemen!
(yes I am including you in that too Don!)
I have a 4 spd tranny that is a GM but out of a truck that I plan to use
behind a 396. It's front bearing retainer is a larger diameter than a
Muncie. Therefore requires either an unusual Bellhousing, or needs the
hole in a standard one reamed out.
Or maybe there is some other option on the tranny ...haven't explored
that yet.
In any case, I figured an old cast iron Bell Housing would allow me to
ream that opening for the bearing retainer on the tranny, still be
strong ....AND give me increased protection over an aluminum Bell
Housing.
Is my logic sound here? Or should I just give in and TRY to find a
scatter proof one that will fit?
What about the bottom pieces..didn't come with one. Weren't those thin
pieces. I think I seen chromed ones for sale.
Anyone else using cast iron Bell Housings? Why?
