I have to agree with Jason and Brad here. GM's patents and rights have long expired. And I definetly like higher quality stuff, but the real issue for me is the ethics of GM in this case. I really feel it isn't right. GM's cheap plastic junk today can't hold up against the competition so let's stick it to guys who like the old stuff. Heck it is bad enough half the stupid parts for my 1987 pickup are discontinued. Also it is getting more and more expensive to restore old cars as it is. Heck a $500 project starter 10 years ago is $3500 or more today depending what exactly it is.

Also I feel if you want to go to the extra prep work to make a cheap panel fit and save a few bucks then that is your choice and rightfully so. Also it does keep other brands in check price-wise.

IMO it is definetly time for another Teddy Roosevelt in the White House cause BB is again getting way out of hand. Look at Microsoft... anyone who says that isn't monopolistic competition is crazy!

"I think this is a question that needs to be definitively
answered.  Has GM in fact retained the rights to the
aftermarket parts in question all these years, but
simply chosen not to pursue any sort of licensing
practices until now?  It seems to me (and me not being a
lawyer) that had any patents and copyrights expired they
wouldn't be able to do this."
