Been There Done That..I fortunately checked for clearance on my BBC and could 
not see light between the stud and pump.  I ground off enough oil pump 
casting..more than you would think.. so I could see daylight.  I've also seen 
hardened oil pump driveshafts that have sleeves thicker than others.  This is 
another area to check for clearance.
