The car is a 71 Chevelle with the stock A/C system.
I thought that the 71's used a expansion valve
setup and did not have the accumilator. I was wanting to do the work myself to
save money. I found a vacuum down unit that uses the air compressor. It sells
for under $16.00. All I would need is to replace all the o-rings,the vacuum down
unit, oil and freon. I just do not know if the expansion valve has to be
replaced with something else if I change to R134. I had a friend that changed
his 1991 IROC from R12 to R134 and it worked good. If I change to R134, I can
refill it myself if needed. I want to learn how to change the system. I just
need knowledge about how. I also need to know how much oil you have to add to a
R134 system. I think that a 71 compressor uses about 3# of freon.
